Following the Town Hall in February 2013, the SRI Advisory Council took up the issue of fossil fuel divestment. After extensive research and discussion, the Advisory Council developed a comprehensive approach to energy investments at UVM that includes recommendations for various areas of the energy sector. These recommendations include divestment from coal companies, shareholder advocacy strategies and strategic investment in renewable energy. The Advisory Council submitted the Energy Recommendations Proposal to Vice President Richard Cate in May, 2013. After several moths of deliberation, the Energy Recommendations Proposal was rejected by the Investment Subcommittee. A timeline of the Fossil Fuel Investments issue, along with the official statement by the University of Vermont can be found under "Documents", in the bar to the left.
