Building Independent Media: Strategies for Change

Michael Parenti, former UVM faculty member and radical scholar-activist, will speak on "Media Crimes and Deceptions" as the co-keynote speaker for the conference. Michael Parenti is the author of Democracy for the Few, and Inventing Reality: the Politics of the Mass Media, and The Sword and the Dollar: Imperialism, Revolution and the Arms Race, among other books. A major progressive voice, he appears regularly on radio and TV.

Amy Goodman is News Director and Host of Democracy Now! at Pacifica station WBAI in New York. She has covered US foreign policy and reported for Pacifica in Mexico, Haiti, and Indonesia. She won awards for breaking the story on a massacre of demonstrators in East Timor, and received a George Polk award for her work on Drilling and Killing.

Because UVM SPARC contributed to the fund to bring Parenti to Burlington, there will be more than 150 seats that will be reserved free for UVM students. So bring you ID and come early! For non-UVM students, the fee for Friday night is $15.00.
