Instant Antiwar Action Group

Is an amorphous group of individuals in Vermont who consider U.S. imperialism to be the fundamental cause of injustice in the world. We oppose imperial war no matter what the excuse given--humanitarian, to stop the flow of drugs, or to control the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (to name a few favorites)...

Our membership is composed of whomever considers themselves a member. Consequently it fluctuates in terms of commitment and numbers.

Since 1997, we have helped sponsor a couple demonstrations against the U.S. sanctions and attacks on the Iraqi people, a teach-in on the sanctions and war against the Iraqis, and a number of postering, newspaper advertising, letter writing, opinion-editorial writing campaigns to raise awareness of U.S. imperial moves. In addition, we sponsored a protest and direct action against the NATO assault on Yugoslavia in the spring 0f 1999 that ended in an occupation of Rep. Bernie Sanders' office. We occupied Sanders' office because of his unabashed support of the NATO attacks. Will Miller wrote a nice piece on that action which appeared in a number of different media in the weeks after the occupation. You can read it, visit the article on Will Miller's website.

While we continue to oppose U.S. involvement in Afghanistan, the Balkans and Middle East, we are also keeping a close watch on the growing U.S. involvement in Colombia and elsewhere in Latin America. We also consider the wars that the Empire fights abroad are part and parcel of the war it is waging against those deemed irrelevant to its goals here at home. Consequently, we oppose the war on drugs and the continued growth of the criminal justice system. In addition, given that we see U.S. imperialism as we do, we support ongoing efforts opposing the globalization of capital. Stay tuned.
