Boat Donation

The boat donation program is a great way to realize the full value of your vessel through a legal tax deduction.  Read on to learn more about UVM's Boat Donation Program.

Recent Donations

Fall 2003 -  31' Columbia Sailboat - Estimated Value $15,000-$25,000

Why Boat Donation?

Save on the expense of insurance, maintenance, storage, repairs, and depreciation.

Bypass all the time, energy, and expense of selling your boat.

Complete the entire transaction quickly, involving minimal personal time.

Pay no sale commissions, avoid marine surveys and sea trials.

Benefit from a legal tax deduction, while supporting a growing collegiate sailing program.

Donation Procedure

The initial step is to phone or write a letter to Justin Assad (justin.assad@uvm.edu; 917.846.6852) expressing the intent to donate a boat.

Yacht Donations will be used by the sailing program to help train sailors for big boat sailing, while some will be sold over time to augment the sailing program in general.  Especially preferable are donations of racing sloops such as J-24s, Sonars, Etchells, Stars, J-35s, and other similar boats that can be used to train for sloop and offshore racing.  A donation of this kind would certainly help UVM's ability to compete in both the National Sloop Championship and the National Offshore Championship.
