Weekend Challenges Teens to Dare to Lead
- By Lauren A. Traister
Fairlee--VTeen Leadership Weekend, Nov. 16-18, lets teens explore communications, team-building, problem solving and other transferable skills that will help them become better leaders in their school and community. Any student in Grades 7-12 from Vermont and neighboring states is welcome to attend.
The cost is $130 for 4-H members and $150 for non-4-H members and covers meals, activities and accommodations for two nights at Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, the venue for this activity-packed weekend. To register, go to www.uvm.edu/extension/youth/announcements.
The event is limited to 50 participants, so early sign up is advised. Registration will close on Oct. 30 or when the limit is reached. Vermont 4-H'ers should check with their University of Vermont (UVM) Extension 4-H educator for information on scholarships.
UVM Extension 4-H will sponsor the weekend, which promises plenty of fun activities, skill-building games and time to socialize and network with peers. The teens also will spend time developing an action plan that focuses on a cause important to them and will learn how to implement that plan for a day of service, which while not required, is encouraged.
To request a disability-related accommodation to participate in the leadership weekend, contact Lauren Traister, UVM Extension 4-H Teen and Leadership Program coordinator, at (802) 888-4972 or toll-free at (866) 260-5603 by Oct. 30.
