Burlington--Three Windham County 4-H'ers were among the 14 Vermont 4-H equestrians who took part in the New England regional 4-H horse show at Eastern States Exposition, Sept. 19-22, in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
The 4-H'ers all participated in a general knowledge contest, fitting and showing, judging and equitation classes in either English or Western divisions along with 4-H club members from the five other New England states.
Kassidy Wyman, Cambridgeport, riding Wallstreet Weedo, came in first in the Open English division for fitting and showing and also captured the Showmanship Championship. In addition, the River Riders II 4-H club member won the Open English Division Championship and placed in the top three in Open English Division performance classes including trail, equitation, pleasure, bridle path hack and command.
Athens 4-H'er Kylee Taylor came in third in the western trail class and tenth in the Western Division fitting and showing competition with her horse, riding H.S. McDreamy. In western pleasure she took sixth and eight in western command. She received a second-place ribbon in western equitation and a fourth-place ribbon in the western all-around class. Kylie is a member of the River Riders II 4-H club.
One delegate from each state is presented with a Sportsmanship Award at the show. Lilia Kocsis of Vernon, who belongs to the Solids, Stripes and Spots 4-H Club, was the recipient for Vermont. Riding Helluva Chic, she placed fifth in both western trail and western command and sixth in western pleasure classes.
Accompanying the 4-H'ers were Mary Fay, Westford; Courtney Boutin, Essex; Jolene Fontaine, Jericho (barn manager); Heather Hodsden, Bridport; Lisa Muzzey, University of Vermont Extension 4-H educator; and Lisa Russin, Underhill. This was Fay's 50th year at the New England 4-H Horse Show at Eastern States Exposition.
