A Note from President Tom Sullivan
- By Staff Council Office
It’s been a very exciting and busy start to the semester. We have enjoyed some great events and positive news coming from all corners of our University. A full schedule of lectures, concerts, and varsity games; spirited conversation on national topics and campus solidarity around civil and human rights; a visit from Vice President Joe Biden discussing the White House Moonshot Cancer Initiative. Coming up, Dr. Paul Farmer, cofounder and chief strategist of the international NGO Partners in Health, will deliver the annual George D. Aiken Lecture on November 3.
I hope you will each take full advantage of the rich educational and cultural opportunities available to the UVM community.
As we enter November, we are once again in the Open Enrollment period for UVM health benefits. From now through November 23rd, benefit-eligible employees can add a spouse or children or otherwise make necessary changes to their health insurance policies. I encourage you to take a good look at our benefits package and decide if this is a moment to make a change for you or your family.
Our UVM benefits package—including healthcare, dental care, 401K plan, tuition reimbursement, vacation time, and more—is crafted to be a significant investment in the health and well-being of our dedicated staff colleagues and your families, and a tangible recognition of the important role our staff plays in the workings of this great University.
The new Wellness web portal championed by the Wellness Council at UVM and created in collaboration with our health insurance partner, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont, brings together many resources for creating an individualized health profile and connecting with resources to help each person develop a depth of knowledge and foundational practices toward a truly healthy and balanced lifestyle. You can access the Wellness web portal through the BCBSVT website.
Our commitment to you is to provide substantive benefits that help lay a foundation for wellness – physically, financially, and emotionally. I encourage you to use all of the resources available as a UVM community member to develop a plan that will sustain you and support you and your family.
With every best wish,
