A Note From President Tom Sullivan
- By Tom Sullivan, President
The University of Vermont is very fortunate to have talented and engaged staff members who serve as active stewards of this beloved institution. Each member of the UVM community has an important role in shared governance; staff members consistently go above and beyond in their efforts to advance our University. The expertise, experience, and enthusiasm of the UVM staff provide a wealth of resources to the other branches of governance. We are very grateful for your participation.
As committed members of the UVM community with significant institutional knowledge, the staff has a unique capability to offer nuanced feedback and well-informed recommendations to the University, to strategize innovative solutions that will work on our campus, and implement new initiatives with sensitivity, efficiency, and effectiveness. We very much appreciate how staff help identify problems, plan solutions, and put new programs and procedures into practice.
An excellent example of staff members serving as both advisors and active participants in the creation and operation of new programs is the success we have had in developing and implementing Incentive Based Budget model. In addition, a new effort commenced this past spring, when Staff Council asked staff members from across the University to attend a series of focus groups and generate feedback and suggestions around a host of staff concerns. Well-supplied with fresh ideas, I know we will move forward together toward progress and change.
By listening to each other and working together, we will meet challenges with creative solutions and demonstrate our continued leadership among our peers in higher education.
