Training Offered April 8 for Pesticide Applicator Certification

Randolph Center--Pesticide applicator training and the written examination for initial certification will be offered April 8 at Vermont Technical College (VTC) in Randolph Center.

Training starts promptly at 9 a.m. at the Red Schoolhouse on campus with the exam given from 2 to 4 p.m. It is open to anyone who needs to obtain a Vermont Pesticide Applicator license and will be conducted by University of Vermont (UVM) Extension and the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets. Licensed pesticide applicators also may attend to earn two Vermont recertification credits.

The training is based on the Northeast Pesticide Applicator Core Manual, which must be purchased for study in advance. Order online at The cost is $41.

The review session will cover state and federal pesticide laws and regulations; pest identification and control; protective equipment and personal safety; pesticide formulations; equipment calibration; first aid for pesticide poisoning and proper use, storage and disposal of pesticides, among other topics.

In addition to the core exam, individuals seeking commercial or non-commercial certification will need to pass specific category tests, depending on their work. Category exams will not be given on this date but may be scheduled through the Vermont Agency of Agriculture at (802) 828-3482.
