Janssen-Heininger Named Chair of NHLBI Study Section

The Center of Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has confirmed the appointment of Yvonne Janssen-Heininger, Ph.D., University of Vermont professor of pathology, as chair of the Lung Injury, Repair and Remodeling study section for National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, for the term beginning July 1, 2014 and ending June 30, 2016.
According to the Center of Scientific Review, study section members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors.
“I want to take this opportunity to emphasize the importance of Dr. Janssen-Heininger’s participation in assuring the quality of the NIH peer review process, express the NIH’s appreciation of your institution’s support of its activities, and indicate the hope and expectation that institutional officials will provide continued support,” said Richard Nakamura, Ph.D., director of the NIH Center for Scientific Review.
Janssen-Heininger, who joined the UVM faculty in 1996, received her Ph.D. from Maastricht University in The Netherlands and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Pathology at the UVM College of Medicine from 1993 to 1996. Her research programs focus on inflammatory lung diseases with a focus on the biology of epithelial cells and redox-dependent processes in order to understand chronic inflammation and pulmonary remodeling.
