University of Vermont

A Note From Staff Council President Catherine Symans

December 2013

Catherine Symans
Holiday Greetings!

As we reflect on the meaning of the holidays, giving comes to mind. We give gifts, we donate to worthy causes, and we give of ourselves. The staff at UVM are very generous when it comes to giving the most valuable of all gifts – time; and whether serving on a committee or volunteering to become involved in any number of initiatives, when there is a need, staff come forward to fill it.  There are always staff members who willingly and generously give of their time despite endless jobs demands. We are well aware of the financial challenges that face us, which will undoubtedly place an even greater demand on our time as we learn how to do more with fewer resources in the future. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge those of you who say “yes” when asked and who have helped make the University of Vermont the positive, caring, and community focused environment in which we all work.

I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to experience the spirit of giving, community and celebration at Staff Council’s annual Holiday Bazaar and Food Drive on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. This is Staff Council’s largest event of the year and raises money for our organization’s Community Service Award and defrays the cost of other events for staff throughout the year. This year our Food Drive will again benefit the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf. With one non-perishable food donation to the Food Drive, you will receive one free raffle ticket (limit one free ticket per person). Prizes include a season’s pass to Smuggler’s Notch, maple syrup, gift certificates to local restaurants, and much, much more. For more information, including a list of vendors, visit the Holiday Bazaar and Food Drive webpage.

We also hope you will attend the Faculty and Staff Holiday Party hosted by President Sullivan and Leslie Sullivan on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. in the Grand Maple Ballroom at the Davis Center. Donations for the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf will also be collected throughout the day in the bus outside of the Davis Center.

From all of us on the Staff Council, we wish you and your families a peaceful and joyous holiday season!

Sincerely,

Catherine Symans

Staff Council President
