Scholarship Funding Available for UVM Graduate Public Health Certificate Program

Prospective students eligible to receive scholarship for tuition costs

The University of Vermont is offering scholarship funding for students who enroll in the 2014 graduate public health certificate program.

The 18-credit, one-year public health online program includes a six-course introduction to the interdisciplinary fields of public health and offers individualized academic advising.  Scholarships are being offered to make the online program accessible and attractive to in-state and out-of-state students.

Incorporating the scholarship, the per-credit tuition for the public health graduate certificate program is $938.60 for out-of-state residents and $543.40 for in-state residents.

“Our Certificate of Graduate Study in Public Health provides a strong foundation in public health, using innovative online teaching methods. Paying for college is challenging for students and their families,” says Dr. Jan K. Carney, associate dean for public health and professor of medicine at UVM's College of Medicine. “These scholarship funds will help us attract outstanding students to our graduate public health program.”

The program’s 2014 session will begin in the spring, and applications are being accepted until Dec. 15, 2013. Recipients are selected for the scholarship based on their acceptance into the graduate certificate program without the requirement of a separate scholarship application.

Public health is a dynamic and challenging multidisciplinary field, blending public policy, research and population health sciences. The focus of public health is on promoting healthy practices and preventing disease among entire populations, rather than on treating individual illness.

Trained across the field of population health sciences, faculty challenge students to explore public health and policy issues while developing the skills and foundation to advance in our changing healthcare system. The UVM Online Certificate of Graduate Study in Public Health faculty hail from UVM’s College of Medicine, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the Vermont Department of Health, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
