2012 McNair Fellows Named

The University of Vermont McNair Scholars Program, which prepares undergraduate students for doctoral studies by facilitating one-on-one relationships with faculty, has chosen ten students from the Class of 2013 as this year's Summer Research Fellows. The national program, introduced at UVM in 2004, aims to increase the number of first-generation, limited-income and underrepresented minority students who earn a doctoral degree.

This year's fellows, their majors and faculty mentors are:

  • Robert Calderon; civil engineering; Mandar Dewoolkar, associate professor of engineering
  • Tracie Ebalu; psychology; Karen Fondacaro, clinical professor of psychology
  • Jonathan Gonzalez; plant biology; Jeanne Harris, associate professor of plant biology
  • Jen Grauer; zoology; Jed Murdoch, assistant professor of wildlife ecology
  • Tony Jiang; medical laboratory sciences; Christopher Berger, associate professor of molecular physiology and biophysics
  • Mukta Mukta; professional nursing; Sarah Abrams, associate professor of nursing
  • Odanis Rosario; civil engineering; Mandar Dewoolkar, associate professor of engineering
  • Jillian Tanych; exercise and movement science; Connie Tompkins, assistant professor of rehabilitation and movement science
  • Drusilla White; psychology; Kelly Rohan, associate professor of psychology
