UVM Donates 311 Pounds of Food to Emergency Food Shelf

As part of a week-long celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr., members of the UVM community donated 311 pounds of food to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf. The food drive, an annual service tradition organized by Human Resource Services, gathered enough food to feed six families for one month.

The contribution comes at a critical time for the Food Shelf, which commonly experiences a drop in donations after the holidays. The MLK food drive follows another successful campus effort in December, when the UVM community donated nearly 3,000 pounds of food to the Vermont Foodbank as part of the "Fill the Bus" campaign.

The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf serves more that 12,000 people each year. Learn more about the organization and how to donate on their website, feedingchittenden.org.
