What to study for Quiz #5, 20 November 2009
This quiz will
cover lecture material from 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, and 19 November. It will cover the remainder of the powerpoint
presentation on “who manages wildlife”, “wetlands”, and “agriculture”.
Readings are:
- Innovations
in stakeholder involvement: what’s the next step? (Chase, L.C., T.M.
Schusler, and D.J. Decker)
- The
essence of wildlife management (Riley, S.J., D.J. Decker, L.H. Carpenter,
J.F. Organ, W.F. Siemer, G.F. Mattfeld, and G. Parsons)
- Know the basics of the 4
articles that were presented in class and how adaptive impact management
was (or was not) implemented in the four articles that you presented in
class.
- Know the issues that affect
wildlife management in wetlands: drainage, dredging, section 404 of the
Clean Water Act, and the functions that are protected under Act 250 in
Vermont.
- Be able to discuss the
changes that have occurred in agricultural lands throughout the US and how
they affect habitat for wildlife.
- Know some of the issues that
occur with wildlife in agricultural lands, and know the effects of
increased mechanization and hay cutting on bird populations.
- Be familiar with the
Conservation Reserve Program.
