What to study for the midterm, 23 October 2009
This quiz will
cover lecture material from the beginning of the semester through 21
October. I am not relisting all the
information that you need to know in total.
See “what to study for quizzes 1, 2, and 3 for that information. The same knowledge base will apply for the
mid-term.
In addition, this
exam will cover material through from quiz #3 through 21 October. This will include the wrap up of population
dynamics and the first couple slides in the “history” powerpoint.
A note on studying for the exam. I would use last year’s exam to evaluate how well you have studied the material rather than use it as a study “guide”. I suggest studying until you feel you are comfortable with the material (after 20-40 hours!), then take the exam as if it were a real test. Then go back and study those areas with which you had trouble.
Also, there are a few topics that were discussed last year but not this year. So, if you see material that is totally unfamiliar, don’t panic. We likely did not discuss it this year.
Another note. The biggest complaint students have with my exams is their length. I will do my best to make the exam time fit into the 50 minutes of class time. However, you also need to budget your time while taking the exam. Don’t waste a disproportionate amount of time on questions worth 1 or 2 points.
