Chapter 3. Single-Species, Single-Season Occupancy Models Introduction

This exercise explains the single-season occupancy model in detail. The basic premise is that multiple sites are surveyed multiple times, with field observers recording whether a target species of interest is detected on the survey (1) or not (0). The model allows estimation of two key parameters: probability of occupancy and probability of detecting the target species, given it is present on a site. This model is FUNDAMENTAL to the remaining exercises, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to understand it completely.
