Why study the environment at UVM?

NOTE: As of Fall 2022, UVM is streamlining pathways for studying the Environment. The Environmental Studies major (available in the Rubenstein School for students who enrolled in Spring 2022 and prior) will be offered exclusively in the College of Arts and Sciences for incoming students as of Fall 2022.

Studying the Environment at UVM will help to prepare you for a wide range of careers in science, natural and cultural resource planning, conservation and management, and ecological design and sustainability.

The University of Vermont long ago recognized the importance of providing educational opportunities in natural resource conservation and management. Efforts were initiated with forestry courses in 1888. High quality undergraduate instruction and advising in environmental and natural resources disciplines are our highest priorities. The emphasis on excellence in undergraduate natural resource programming is strengthened by a strong interdisciplinary core curriculum. Distinctions among disciplines are de-emphasized while the elements of a strong professional education are retained.
