Meet Justine Mulliez '11

Justine Mulliez '11

From Atlanta, Georgia, Justine entered UVM as a College of Arts and Sciences major and a club volleyball player. With family in Lille, France, she grew up skiing and snowboarding in the Alps and soon became a member of the board of directors for UVM's Ski & Snowboard Club. She also switched her major to Recreation Management, so she could turn her passion into a career.

"With 2000 student members, the Club is one of the biggest in the nation. We make it as easy and inexpensive as possible for students to ski and ride." Justine became Club secretary, then events coordinator, and finally president her senior year. During semester breaks, she led students on trips to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and her home turf in the Alps.

Justine landed internships and jobs in recreation and tourism with help from Lecturer David Kaufman. Often using her expertise in the French language, she worked with Rome Snowboard Design Syndicate in Waterbury, Vermont; Ski Vermont, a marketing firm in Montpelier; Stowe Mountain Resort as a summer attractions attendant; and as a Cabot Cheese "Shredder," promoting Cabot Cooperative at ski resorts.

Justine volunteered at an orphanage in India one summer and took Spanish courses during a semester in Spain where she tutored English and toured Europe. She hopes to perfect her Spanish this summer while leading community service/surfing trips for Wilderness Ventures in Costa Rica. This winter, she'll head to France where she hopes to intern with the 2012 European X Games and learn the business from the ground up.
