A member of the UVM Women's Basketball team, Sofia Iwobi worked with the City of Burlington's Department of Parks and Recreation to fulfill her Recreation Management major required internship. She put her graphic design talents to work, creating posters, flyers, and brochures for department events. Her greatest accomplishment was developing a logo for the Chill 3 on 3 Basketball Charity Classic event on which she worked with alum Wendy Carbone '09. The logo was used on t-shirts that all participants wore.
"I had the opportunity to interact with the public and learn from other Parks and Rec employees," says Sofia. “Our biggest project was the Chill 3 on 3 Basketball Charity Classic, a first time event with only two months to plan and execute it." She also contributed various tasks to make Burlington's Independence Day celebration a huge success, helped to set up and run the 30th Annual Children's Pet Show, and assisted with the Senior Picnic at Oakledge.
"My advisor and boss throughout the internship process supplied me with engaging tasks that allowed me to use the skills and knowledge I've acquired from my Rubenstein School and UVM classes."
