Kurt Johnsen (FOR ’85) is now Project Leader of the Upland Hardwood Forest Ecology and Management unit of the USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station located in Asheville, NC. The unit is spread across the southern United States in five locations and has a total of eight scientists. The unit studies a diversity of topics including bat research, upland hardwood silviculture, and the reintroduction of American chestnut.
