Malagasy buying stalls (Ambondromifehy)
Malagasy sapphire traders own or rent simple buying stalls that are made of the same plant materials used to construct typical houses. They wait in the stall for miners or middlemen to bring them rough sapphires, which they examine with simple tools (flashlights or bowls of water) and offer a price. The person selling the stone then accepts the price or shows it to other buyers in different stalls in hopes of getting a better price.
