Wooden Crank for Hauling Stones
Cranks like these are commonly used over deep pits in the hard limestone substrate of some mining sites (such as Andranodambo and the Sept Lacs region).  A digger working in the pit places excavated material in an empty rice sac that is suspended from the crank by a rope.  When the bag begins to get too heavy, it is pulled up using the crank, emptied at the surface and lowered again for more stones.
