My very rewarding thirty year association with RSENR's Recreation Management Program includes both teaching and working with students in an advisory capacity related to their career paths. The courses I've created and taught include Resort Marketing and Management (30 years!), Sustainable Tourism Planning (first taught in the ‘80’s, picking up again in 2009), Entrepreneurship in Recreation and Tourism (almost 20 years), Ski Area Management (almost 10 years).
My long-term experience as a professional in Vermont's travel and recreation industry has enabled me to bring the "real world" into the classroom, helping students to understand the relationship between their education and recreation and tourism as functioning businesses in a constantly evolving environment. There is great emphasis on "Green and Sustainable" recreation and tourism. I also facilitate a first year course to our top RSENR first year students, the Aiken Scholars Seminar, as well as advise approximately two dozen first year students, helping them to get a solid beginning to their UVM educational programs.
