Service-Learning Community Partners

The Rubenstein School values its community partnerships and has worked with hundreds of community groups, non-profit organizations, schools, churches, municipalities, and state and federal agencies through service-learning projects.  This list of community partner organizations was started in the fall of 2011 and will be expanded upon each semester as future service-learning courses foster partnerships with new community partners.

Resources for Community Partners

  • There are different ways that community partners can engage with Rubenstein School students, including through internships, service-learning courses, and volunteer opportunities.  If you are a community partner and you are unsure of  the type of partnership that might be appropriate for your organization and/or any potential student projects, see our Community Partnership Opportunities guide.
  • UVM's Office of Community-University Partnerships and Service-Learning  has created a Community Partner guide in collaboration with community members and organizations. It is meant to serve as an introductory and ongoing resource to community agencies that are interested in becoming partners in service-learning. As a guiding tool it is designed to be brief and informative while offering links to more extensive information.

  • California State Univeristy's Center for Community Engagement has also developed a Community Partner Service-Learning Guidebook.  This guide has been designed to be a resource tool for community partners involved with service learning faculty and courses.  The resource guide provides community partners with guidance on your role as a co-educator, designing a service-learning project, preparing studetns to serve at your organization, and facilitating student reflection activities.

Community Partner Feedback

Reciprocity is a key characteristic of a successful service-learning partnerships and  all service-learning courses should incorporate some mechanism to gather feedback from the community partner.  In addition to direct feedback and constructive conversations with students and faculty specific to each service-learning course, at UVM, the Office of Community-University Partnerships and Service-Learning (CUPS) administers a confidential survey at the end of each semester to assess the quality of service-learning across campus.  The results of this survey are summarzied at the end of each year in a publication from the CUPS Office titled "Voices of our Partners: Suggestions for Improving Service-Learning Partnerships", which is available online: 2011-2012, 2009-2010, 2008-2009
