Friends of senior Ben Mohla (ENSC ’14), of Wakefield, Massachusetts, filled the Aiken Center solarium on December 4, 2013 to remember and celebrate Ben’s life.  Ben died in a motor vehicle accident during inclement weather in Randolph, Vermont on November 23, 2013.

Ben was active on the Greening of Aiken project that involved the green renovation of the Aiken Center and worked closely with Research Specialist Matt Beam and other students on the building’s Eco-Machine, which treats wastewater generated by occupants. He was also a leader in the “Living Place Design Competition,” a collaboration between the Greenhouse Residential Learning Community and the Rubenstein School and directed by faculty member Walter Poleman.

Students described Ben as full of life and spontaneity, always looking to try something new and making friends wherever he went.  Friends and faculty shared stories of Ben’s passion for the environment, music, cooking, and photography and the incredible impact he had on so many in the Rubenstein School and UVM community.  He will be greatly missed.
