RGSA Hits the Ground Running in 2013

The RSENR Graduate Student Association (RGSA) is off and running with a host of exciting programs, activities, and events planned for the coming year. Our mission is to represent the needs, interests, and perspectives of graduate students in RSENR. Every graduate student is a member of the RGSA, and our executive committee meets twice a month on Mondays from 12-1pm.

One of RGSA’s signature community building initiatives is the Rubenstein Mentoring Program, which pairs undergraduates with graduate students that have similar academic and professional interests to offer guidance and support. We currently have 38 undergraduates and 24 graduate students enrolled, reflecting a considerable increase in participation from the program’s inaugural year. RGSA is committed to fostering undergraduate-graduate student community engagement and is exploring other opportunities, such as coordinating graduate school workshops with the Rubenstein Stewards and an undergraduate research fair in the spring.

The RGSA-organized fall seminar series is proceeding smoothly. Students, faculty and staff have enjoyed four weeks of research updates and lively discussion with RSENR faculty (dubbed “Faculty Quick Talks”). The series continues with an exciting line-up of distinguished guests every Thursday through December 5. Many thanks to the series coordinators, Christopher Clement and Monika Derrien.

Graduate students, faculty, and staff are reminded to look for upcoming RGSA events such as RSENR grad student/faculty/staff social events once a month after the seminar series at a local establishment and the always delicious Chili Cook-off that will be on November 11th.

The RGSA also congratulates the newly crowned RSENR GSS Senators—Chester Harvey, Christine Peterson and Stephanie Juice!

Rubenstein graduate students: RGSA is your organization!  Executive Committee meetings are open to all members, and our e-mail inbox is always open. Send your thoughts, ideas, and opinions along to rgsa@uvm.edu.
