:: Requesting your Transcripts

Please Note: You may print your unofficial transcripts directly from BANNER SIS or request a copy at the Student Service Center.

In Person or By Mail

Transcripts can be requested in person at the Student Service Center in Waterman. Alternately, you may simply write to us and request a transcript using either the Transcript Request Form or by sending us the following information:

  • name under which you studied here
  • student ID number (95 number) or social security number
  • date of birth
  • last term in which you were enrolled (in any number of credits) at UVM
  • your complete address and telephone number
  • the COMPLETE address(es) where you would like your transcript(s) to be sent
By Fax

If you choose to request your transcripts via fax, please be sure to include a phone number where you can be reached during the day. Faxed requests can be difficult to read. In order to insure that we are providing you with the best possible service we need to be able to reach you with questions. Faxed transcripts are considered " rush service" unless otherwise stated. If you fail to indicate you do not wish your transcripts to be rushed you will be billed the $5.00 rush fee.

By Email

It is now possible to request your transcripts by sending us a signed and scanned copy of your Transcript Request Form as an attachment. Send your request to registrar@uvm.edu.

Your transcript cannot be processed under the following circumstances:

Federal regulations require that we have your signature in order to release your transcripts. Your request cannot be processed without a signature.

If you have any financial obligations to the University your transcripts cannot be processed.

:: Receiving your Transcripts

In Person

You may elect to have your transcripts held for pickup at the Student Service Center desk if you wish to receive them in person. In order to receive your transcripts you must present us with a valid form of photo identification (Drivers License, Passport, student ID, etc.).

It is possible for a third party to pick up your transcripts in your place although this is not recommended. In order to protect your privacy we must have a signed note granting the third party the right to receive your transcripts, and that person must provide us with a valid form of photo identification.

Transcripts issued for pick-up will be stamped “Issued to Student.”

Mailed to You

You may elect to have your transcripts mailed directly to your address, either for your own personal use, or to be sent along to a third party (potential employer, another institution, graduate school etc.).

Please note, also, that any transcript mailed to a student, even if placed in a separate sealed envelope, will be stamped "Issued to Student".

Faxed

If you elect to have your transcript faxed to the recipient rather than mailed, please be aware that in addition to the fax number, you must also provide us with a physical address for the recipient. Most schools and organizations will not accept faxed transcripts as official. It is therefore our policy to also mail an official copy of any transcript we fax. Your request will not be processed if you do not include a mailing address for each recipient you wish a faxed copy to be sent to.

:: Paying for your Transcripts

Normal Processing

There is no charge for normal transcript processing. If you are on a tight deadline, and need to be assured your transcript will be processed quickly, we do provide "'rush service" for a $5.00 fee.

Rush Service

Rush service transcripts are mailed the next business day after we receive the request. Our rush service excludes weekends and holidays. If we receive a rush service request on Friday or the day before a holiday, the transcript will not go out until the next business day. All transcripts, even rush service, are sent using regular USPS mail service.

The rush service fee can be paid by cash, check, or money order. Please make checks payable to the University of Vermont.

The maximum fee charged for rush service is $5.00 regardless of the number of transcripts requested.

How quickly will I receive my transcript(s)?

If you choose the regular, free of charge service, your transcript will typically be processed within three to five business days. Once your transcript is processed it is mailed via USPS. If you need your transcript quickly, you may elect the 24 hour rush service for a $5.00 flat processing fee. Rush transcripts are sent via USPS mail. If you wish to have your transcript mailed other than by USPS please see below for information on express mailing.

Why haven't I received my transcript(s)?

There are several reasons why you may not have received your transcript within the time frame you were expecting. All transcripts, including rush requests, are sent via USPS mail. This means that while a rush request will be processed and put in the mail by the next business day and a regular request will typically be processed within 3-5 days we cannot guarantee when your transcripts will be delivered by the Post Office.

There are also certian circumstances in which we are unable to process your request. If you have not recieved your transcripts holds on your account or a failure to provide us with your signature are among the most common reasons which may have prevented us from processing your request. Please note that we cannot process your transcript request in the event that you are financially indebted to the University. Additionally, federal law requires that we have your signature in order to release your academic records.

Can I request a transcript over the phone?

No. Federal law requires that we obtain your signature in order to release your transcripts.

How can I pay for rush service?

You can pay your rush service fee by check, cash, or money order. Unfortunately, we cannot accept credit card payments for the rush service charge.

I want to request my transcript be rushed. Can I be billed?

Yes. If you wish to request rush service you may be billed. Your transcript request will be processed when we receive your request. A copy of your bill will be mailed to you. Please be aware that the fee for rush service cannot be charged to your university account.

Can my transcript be sent by express mail?

It is possible to have your transcripts overnighted via UPS. To elect this service clearly write UPS OVERNIGHT on your form. To process your request we will need (in addition to the five dollar rush fee which must be paid by check, cash, or money order) a credit card number and expiration date for the shipping fee. If you are uncomfortable providing your credit card number directly on the form please feel free to call us with your information (802) 656-2045.

If I fax my request, do I also need to mail the hard copy?

We no longer require that you follow up a faxed transcript request with a hard copy. If you elect rush service you can, if you wish, send the hard copy of your request to us with your payment, OR you can wait to receive your invoice and send your payment along with the invoice.

How can I request my transcript if I attended Trinity College?

The records of Trinity College students are held by the Office of the Registrar at Saint Michael's College. Contact their office directly by calling (802) 654-2571 or click here to download their transcript request form.
