Electronic Tools Can Build a Learning Community

Colleges across the state have pre-service programs that prepare teachers for Vermont classrooms. Faculty build their syllabi based on research, classroom observations and pre-service feedback but do not have the day to day submersion to understand all the obstacles that teachers are increasing being asked to overcome. As teacher's are being asked to demonstrate their success by student P-12 student outcomes, teacher preparation programs are asking how well are we preparing today's teachers for tomorrow's children.

The inherent connection between pre-service preparation and teacher practice has been long recognized but because of geographical and cultural barriers, these two often disconnect when new teacher's leave for classrooms. New electronic tools offer new opportunities in communication, teaching and learning to benefit both communities with resources, assessment tools and interaction with a range of educators.
