| SUMMER LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (July 2008)

Vermont Leadership for Information Technology in Education (VT LEAD-IT) is the result of a successful partnership between a number of educational agencies and institutions whose purpose is to enhance education using information technology tools and networks in Vermont. Through professional development, continuing discussion, and models of best practices, we hope to  equip Vermont’s educational leaders – its superintendents, principals, technology and curriculum coordinators, and school board members – with the vision and skills they need to educate today’s and tomorrow’s students.  Funding for this initiative comes from the Vermont Department of Education Title IID Enhancing Education Through Technology competitive grant program (2006-2008).

Call for Participation.
We invite 12 more teams from each of our supervisory unions, six (6) from “geographically northern” and six (6) from “geographically southern” locations to participate in a year-long professional development program to develop leadership strategies in the application and use of information technology.

Members of each team of four should include at least one

  • superintendent/assistant superintendent
  • principal/assistant principal
  • technology coordinator/curriculum specialist and
  • school board member
Teams will be selected through a competitive Application Process, with preference given to school districts that have received Title IID competitive grant awards although the best applications will be selected.  As an incentive, each team member will receive a stipend of $400 that may be used to  offset expenses, such as the cost of  a three-credit graduate course, equipment, travel, conference attendance, etc.

Vermont LEAD-IT also includes an option to individual team members to enroll in a three credit University of Vermont graduate course intentionally developed to meet participants’ needs and interests and aligned to the NETS A standards.  These courses will be offered during the Spring 2008 semester and will include both face-to-face and online participation.

Commitment of Team Members.  Each team must agree to a local, cost share match and execute a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines the team’s commitment to participate in periodic face to face meetings and online discussions, a summer leadership institute, and to develop either a new or revised technology plan. The local match should demonstrate a commitment to better technology integration and may be met in a number of ways including, but not limited to:
  • technology equipment purchases
  • visits to technology-rich schools
  • attendance at Vermont Fest, Dynamic Landscapes, our Summer Institue or other technology venues
  • software purchases
  • infrasctructure investments
