Course Objectives

To a ship with no port, no wind is favorable

Objectives give us something to aim for. What do I want you to learn when you leave this course? If I don't know this, how do I know what to teach you?

What are the important things for you to learn and bring away after you have completed Technology in the Secondary Classroom?

1.You are technologically literate. This doesn't mean you have to know how to program your machine, but you should understand how computers work and organize their information, and how to use word processors, spreadsheets and graph software. You should be ethical in your computer practices, know how to publish your own website and differentiate good web sites from hoaxes or poorly designed ones. You will learn how to make a digital movie, use powerpoint and search the net efficently and effectively.

2. You understand and know how to use technology to enhance your learning and the learning of your K-12 students. You read articles and research that demonstrate good technology practices that gives you ideas of how you will use technology with the students you teach. Your course assignments are all project based giving you examples of how you might want to use these tools in your class.

3. You will learn how using technology links to the research theories and pedagogical practices that you will learn about during your teacher preparation program. See how Gardner's theory of multi-intelligences is promoted by technology tools and how group feedback and collaboration support greater reflection and quality of work.
