Strategic Initiatives Project
The 2011-12 Strategic Initiatives Project has concluded, however, during the 2012-13 academic year we will move forward with several important strands of this project.
Strategic Value and Financial Strength Analysis - The plan this Fall had been to engage in further campus discussion around a University-wide approach to the use of the tools and data developed through the SIP process. Instead, those data, as well as others are provided below, in “Decision and Planning Support for Deans” in accord with President Sullivan’s and Provost Low’s belief that those closest to the academic programs, including both academic administrators and faculty members, are best positioned to refine the process, metrics and weighting that will be used to assess them.
Institutional Grant Program – An initial $200,000 base budget has been established for the REACH Grant Program that will invest in seed-grants that will lead to external funding as well as provide support in areas where external grant opportunities are limited. Vice President Domenico Grasso has invested $100,000 of his existing budget toward this program as well. You can learn more about the program here: http://www.uvm.edu/~gradcoll/?Page=facstaff/reachgrant.php&SM=facstaff/_facstaffmenu.html
Administrative Program Review - Last year we arrived at a consensus that some structured review of administrative units is necessary, including the establishment of administrative performance metrics and benchmarks and an evaluation of whether the structure, cost and effectiveness of our central administrative departments is on par with comparable institutions. We are developing a multi-faceted approach for Spring, 2013 that will allow for some immediate progress, as well as develop a comprehensive, long-term program for administrative unit review.
