Biography: Dr. David Hemenway Ph.D.

Dr. Hemenway has served as a Professor of Health Policy at the Harvard School of Public Health since 1996 and as the Director of the Harvard Injury Control Center since 1998. The Harvard Youth Violence Prevention Center has been under his leadership since 2000. Throughout his years of scholarship, research, and service, Dr. Hemenway has published six books and dozens of peer-reviewed journal articles on public health topics such as motor vehicle crashes, falls, and child abuse. He is also a past president of the National Association of Injury Control Research. His most recent book Private Guns Public Health (University of Michigan Press, 2004) has been heralded as a “brilliant and clear-eyed primer for the country” by New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof. Dr. Hemenway’s research interests include injury prevention, health economics, and applied microeconomics. Dr. Hemenway received a Bachelor of Art degree from Harvard University, Master of Art degree from the University of Michigan, and Doctor of Philosophy degree from Harvard University.

On Thursday, March 24, 2011 Hemenway will present, "Guns And Public Health, A research-based public health approach for living with guns rather than dying with guns"
