President's Report to Board of Trustees

From: Daniel Mark Fogel, President

To: UVM Community

Date: February 6, 2009

Re: President's Report to the Board of Trustees

I am sending you as an attachment the report I delivered this morning to the UVM Board of Trustees. I ask respectfully that you take the time to read it. In the report I address several issues of immediate concern to our community, including:

  • The current status of the budget and upcoming decisions, including a two-phase process that allows us to defer most personnel actions until we have better information about state funding
  • Impacts of budget reductions on class sizes and student/faculty ratios, which will be quite modest
  • Application and enrollment numbers, which are looking robust and healthy
  • Several other key indicators relevant to our institutional health and position
  • Salary information regarding faculty and senior administration
  • A status report on two processes: The exploration of alternative academic organizational structures; and the Governor's task force to examine possible synergies between UVM and the Vermont State Colleges

In this time of worry and uncertainty, I hope that this factual information addresses at least some of the current questions being posed on campus. Thanks for taking the time to read it.

Sincerely,

Daniel Mark Fogel
President
