Senior Advisor to the President: Dr. John N. Evans has been appointed Senior Advisor to the President and will be working with the Vice President for Research to identify and capture commercialization opportunities for faculty, student, and staff inventions and innovation and to build a network of UVM alumni and friends who can be advisors and/or partners in UVM’s commercialization efforts. He will also be working with the Vice Presidents for Research and for Development and Alumni Relations to enhance UVM’s corporate and foundation relations with a view toward enlarging opportunities for commercialization of research and for mission-appropriate contributions to the economic vitality of the State of Vermont. Dr. Evans holds an appointment as Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics in the College of Medicine and has held numerous leadership positions at the University of Vermont, including Dean of the College of Medicine.
Associate Provost for Curricular Affairs: Dr. Brian Reed, Associate Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and currently Interim Dean of the College and Associate Professor of Physical Therapy, has been appointed Associate Provost for Curricular Affairs. Dr. Reed also served as Acting Dean of the College in 2007-2008. Dr. Reed’s responsibilities will be wide-ranging in the Office of the Provost, but a primary focus will be working on behalf of the Provost with the Faculty Senate on curricular initiatives, including general education, academic program review, and cross-college programming in health and environmental sciences.

Please join us in welcoming and supporting these members of our community as they assume new leadership roles. We look forward to working with them to continue advancing UVM as one of the nation’s premier small research universities. We also wish to express our appreciation to several members of our community who will be returning to their faculty appointments, including Drs. John Hughes, Jill Tarule, and Dale Jaffe.
