LGBTQA Center
Mission
As the LGBTQA Center our purpose is to join with others at UVM to: inspire personal growth and empowerment; nurture community; educate for social justice; and advocate for liberation—the freedom to live openly in an affirming community—for all people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning, and everyone who aspires to be their advocates.
What we do
The LGBTQA Center @ UVM works to:
Engage UVM in understanding the full range of perspectives and experiences of LGBTQA students, staff, faculty and alumni. To do this we:
- Advocate: track community concerns and UVM's response to them, and provide consultation about institutional policies and practices, and/or instances of discrimination and bias to advance LGBTQ issues and concerns;
- Educate: provide workshops and information on request to students staff, and faculty that raise awareness about the full spectrum of LGBTQA identities and experiences;
- Inspire: Celebrate the accomplishments of LGBTQA people with the UVM community, and develop deeper awareness and understanding of LGBTQ issues and diversity of experience, and the leadership skills and qualities of LGBTQ students, staff and faculty members, in service to the university community, and
- Nurture: Maintain facilities and resources and support campus organizations that provide members of the LGBTQA community with a sense of belonging and place, and build connections among and between the different parts of the LGBTQA community's spectrum of identities and experiences.
