The Office of Student Life, the UVM Writing Center, and the Writing in the Disciplines Program invite new students to respond to this year’s common reading, and participate in the “Mountains Beyond Mountains Contest.”
The UVM community is starting the year by reading Tracy Kidder’s Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World. This book follows the true story of Dr. Paul Farmer and his quest to transform healthcare on a global scale by focusing on the world’s poorest and sickest communities.
Essays are invited in four categories:
One work from each category will be chosen by a panel of UVM judges to receive a $300 prize and will be featured on the web in the UVM Common Reading Gallery as part of the National Day on Writing website.
