Due to Inclement Weather Prediction
Sunday, August 28
The University of Vermont's convocation ceremony, originally scheduled for Sunday, August 28, at 6 p.m. in the Patrick Gymnasium Complex, has been cancelled due to expected adverse weather conditions from the remnants of Hurricane Irene.
The twilight induction ceremony on the Main Green that would have followed convocation has also been canceled, along with road closings planned for the event. All other Friday and Saturday Opening Weekend events are unaffected.
First-year summer reading program:
Rebecca Skloot, author of “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” which was the assigned reading for first-year students, will speak at the university on Tuesday, October 11, at 5:30 p.m. in Ira Allen Chapel. The story chronicles the life of Henrietta Lacks, a poor black tobacco farmer whose cells were taken without her knowledge. These cells became one of the most important tools in medicine leading to numerous medical advances.
More details will be added as they become available.
