2010 CONVOCATION

Guest Speaker: Firoozeh Dumas, author of “Funny in Farsi: A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America”

New Students | Returning and Transfer Students

NEW STUDENTS Class of 2014

Tickets: First-year UVM students will receive their tickets to Convocation from their Residential Advisor on Sunday, August 29, at 5:00 pm at their Community Meeting. All first-year students are required to attend Convocation.

Summer Reading Program: The Summer Reading Program is a new student’s first introduction to the academic life of the university. UVM first-year students are required to read “Funny in Farsi: A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America” by Firoozeh Dumas. Ms. Dumas will be the guest speaker at Convocation.

Opening Weekend Schedule for Sunday, August 29:

5:00 pm Community Meeting with your RA after which all first-year students will proceed with their RA and roommates to Convocation in a procession following their residence hall banner.
6:00 pm 2010 Convocation, Patrick Gym (Attendance Required)

Immediately following the Convocation Ceremony:

Members of the Class of 2014 will walk to the University Green for the Twilight Induction Ceremony. The Taiko Drummers will set the pace along the parade route from Patrick Gym, down Main Street, to the University Green. In the event of inclement weather, the Induction Ceremony will take place in Patrick Gymnasium.

After the Twilight Induction Ceremony:

Reception and book signing will take place in the Dudley H. Davis Center.

RETURNING AND TRANSFER STUDENTS

Tickets: Convocation is a ticketed event. Tickets are free and will be available to UVM returning and transfer students beginning Sunday, August 22 through Sunday, August 29 at the Hoffman Information Desk in the Dudley H. Davis Center.

6:00 pm 2010 Convocation, Patrick Gym. Doors open at 5:15 pm.

Immediately following the Convocation Ceremony:

The campus community is invited to attend the Class of 2014 Twilight Induction Ceremony on the University Green.
