Provost and Senior Vice President - Dr. David V. Rosowsky
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. David V. Rosowsky as Provost and Senior Vice President at the University of Vermont, effective August 1, 2013. Dr. Rosowsky is currently Dean of the School of Engineering and Professor of Civil Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a position he has held since 2009.
The College of Engineering at Rensselaer has 160 faculty members, more than 3000 undergraduate students, and nearly 700 graduate students. Dr. Rosowsky brings substantial experience in strategic planning and budgeting, and in curricular and pedagogic innovation. Prior to joining Rensselaer, he was Head of the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University, where he also held the A.P. and Florence Wiley Chair in Civil Engineering.
Dr. Rosowsky is a highly productive and recognized scholar. He is the author of more than 300 publications with emphasis on the reliability of structures, particularly those subject to natural hazards and environmental loads. He also maintains an active research program in wind and earthquake engineering and continues to supervise graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. He is a member of numerous editorial boards, national technical committees, is a registered professional engineer, and holds the rank of fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Dr. Rosowsky earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Tufts University, and a doctorate in civil engineering from Johns Hopkins University. He also is a member of the Engineering Board of Advisors of Tufts University.
I wish to thank the faculty, staff, and students who served on the Search Committee, so ably chaired by Dr. Abu Rizvi along with vice chair Dr. Rachel Johnson, for their outstanding efforts to bring this search to such a positive conclusion. To all members of the University community, thank you for your full engagement in the important search for our next provost.
I also want to extend a special expression of appreciation to Interim Provost Bob Low for his dedication and judgment, which he has brought this past semester to this important position.
I hope all members of our community will give Dr. Rosowsky and his family a warm welcome to UVM when he begins his work as Provost over the summer.
