Conversations with the President
President Sullivan initiated a program to enable him to speak informally about important issues on campus with members of the University of Vermont community called “Conversations with the President.” Each term, he hosts three or four Conversations with invited groups of faculty, students, and staff. These relaxed discussions with light refreshments typically take place in Waterman in the late afternoon.
Invitees are encouraged to participate, but do not need to prepare notes. The President seeks responses, new ideas, and fresh approaches from members of the community as we face present challenges, create new solutions, and shape the future of this venerable institution.
President Sullivan has found these Conversations with members of the campus community to be extremely engaging and productive. Ideas that emerged from several Conversations helped to shape new initiatives on campus. For example, based on a discussion with staff members last spring, he launched the new Presidential Staff Recognition Awards Program. This spring the first recipients will be selected to receive their awards. President Sullivan looks forward to many enjoyable and fruitful Conversations at UVM in the years to come.
