about

About CUPS

MISSION

To connect the university and community as partners in addressing real world challenges through engaged scholarship and transformative learning experiences.

VISION

Students, faculty, staff, and communities are active change agents, empowered with the values, skills, and knowledge to contribute to the public good.

VALUES

  • Reciprocity - all partners in an engaged scholarly activity benefit equally and meaningfully.
  • Responsibility - engaging with invested community partners demands committment, follow-through, and dedication.
  • Respect - the knowledge and contributions of all engaged learners, all sources of knowledge and experience, are valued and recognized.
  • Recognition - the efforts of all parties - students, community members, and faculty members - should be appropriately recognized and rewarded.
  • Rigor - in the pursuit of engaged scholarship, academic rigor and research standards must be upheld.

How is the CUPS office different from other offices on campus?

While the CUPS office is designed to facilitate partnerships of all varieties, our primary concentration is on partnerships that align with academic programming (such as Academic Service-Learning and Community Based Research). We concentrate on creating partnerships with community organizations that are integrated with and enhance academic intiatives.  Our Staff works closely with UVM faculty to develop service-learning and community-based research skills and increase interest in these alternative forms of teaching and learning.
