- Outstanding Service-Learning Faculty Award
- Outstanding Service-Learning Community Partner Award
- Outstanding Service-Learning Student Award
Nominations will be accepted until April 3, DEADLINE EXTENDED: April 10, 2009
Every nominee for each award will be acknowledged:
- in writing (with a certificate of appreciation); and
- in person at an Award Reception on April 28, 2009

Outstanding Service-Learning Faculty Award
This award acknowledges outstanding teaching in a UVM credit-bearing service-learning course. Nominees may be any UVM instructor who has taught a credit-bearing UVM service-learning course in the past year (Spring 08 - Spring 09). All nominees will receive a Certificate of Appreciation and recognition at a reception in late April 2009.
Criteria for award selection
- Excellence in providing students with integrated academic experiences in and out of the classroom (testimony from students is encouraged);
- Excellence and innovation implementing a course in which students genuinely contribute to meeting a community need (testimony from community partners is encouraged);
- Ability to collaborate effectively with community partners to provide students with exceptional learning and development experiences;
- Other evidence relevant to exceptional service-learning instruction.
Outstanding Service-Learning Community Partner Award
This award acknowledges outstanding collaboration, contributions, and support of an organization or group that has served as a community partner for a UVM credit-bearing service-learning course. The nominee is expected to have served as a community partner for a service-learning course taught by a UVM instructor in the past year (Spring 08-Spring 09). All nominees will receive a Certificate of Appreciation and recognition at a reception in late April 2009 to honor their contributions to the education of UVM students.
Criteria for award selection
- The nominee's active collaboration in course development and/or implementation;
- The support and opportunities provided by the community partner to UVM students & the instructor;
- Other evidence relevant to exceptional contributions and partnership collaboration.
Outstanding Service-Learning Student Award
This award acknowledges outstanding performance of a student in a UVM credit-bearing service-learning course. Each faculty member may nominate one student from each of her/his service-learning courses. Nominees may be any UVM student who has completed a credit-bearing UVM service-learning course in the past year (Spring 08 -Spring 09). All nominees will receive a Certificate of Appreciation and recognition at a reception in late April 2009.
Criteria for award selection
The awardee will be selected based on evidence of demonstrated excellence in:
- Drawing significant connections between the classroom and out-of-classroom experiences through reflection and related activities;
- Strong reciprocity of benefits in the service-learning activity such that both partners and the students prosper in important ways from the activity (testimony from community partners is welcomed);
- Ability to collaborate effectively with community partners in providing benefits to the partner, class members, and oneself;
- Other evidence relevant to exceptional service-learning instruction or experience, including exceptional leadership and support of fellow students and/or partners in the service-learning endeavor.
