Research conducted by the Park Studies Lab was featured by the National Park Service in their publication InsideNPS. This program of research helped Muir Woods National Monument identify stand-ards of quality for visitor-caused noise in the park and evaluate an experimental management program aimed at reducing visitor-caused noise and promoting "natural quiet." The park has now des-ignated Cathedral Woods as a "quiet zone."
