Welcome Back!

September 2017

Recap: Welcome Bags

Every year at the beginning of the Fall, our office partners with a crew of volunteers (UVM students, staff, faculty as well as city employees and campus neighbors) to hand out 500 Welcome Bags filled with swag (like an oven mitt) as well as important information for living well off campus (everything from information on carsharevt to recycling schedules).

The idea for the program came from a Burlington neighbor named Sara Puretz, as a way for her to meet her student neighbors during a positive interaction. Off campus students who receive a bag also have the opportunity to check in with volunteers about how things are going.

Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers this year!

Friday Breakfast

We are super excited to be able to host a Friday Breakfast early in the semester so we have time to talk to people about all our Fall programming, especially Off Campus Living Workshops. The menu will be varied, the conversations friendly and the goal to make new friends. We look forward to seeing you there!

Are you going hungry?

Are you struggling to afford food?
Are you skipping meals because of money?

You are not alone! Hunger is a growing issue among college students. Have you considered applying for 3SquaresVT food assistance to help relieve your stress so you can focus on your academic work?
  • Recipients receive an EBT card that looks and functions just like a debit card.
  • The state deposits money into your account.
  • You can use the money at grocery stores, convenience stores, and farmer's markets!
  • There are enough 3SquaresVT benefits for everyone. If you get 3SquaresVT benefits, you will not be taking them away from others.
Vermont Foodbank's 3SquaresVT Outreach Team helps college students complete their application and supports them throughout the process (which can take as little as 15 minutes)! For more information check out their website.
