September 2015

ActivitiesFest was great this week. It is always such an energetic, welcoming and creative event - kudos to Nicole Potestivo and her team at Student Life for another great year!

While tabling, we met plenty of First Years who were excited to hear about our Babysitter Mingler. Returning students wanting to explore Burlington and get to know their neighbors were excited about volunteering to distribute Welcome Bags with us. And we were excited to be at the event - despite the high heat and humidity.

In this issue, we are also featuring plenty of opportunities to get involved, get FREE food, and prepare for a great year. Enjoy!

Sex Objects

Perspectives on Gender and Sexuality
September 8, 2015 – May 22, 2016
Fleming Museum, Wilbur Room

A new exhibit at the Fleming museum is sure to catch people's attention with their title. The exhibit explores many interrelated topics. As their website notes:

"Societies communicate their ideals about appropriate gender traits, relationships, and even daily choices regarding physical appearance through many means, including their art and material culture. These images and objects create an expectation that people will conform to society’s socially constructed gender roles even if it is not their natural inclination; however, marginalized groups may form and uphold other ideals of sexual and gendered expression".

Admission is FREE to UVM students, staff & faculty. Check out their website for more information.
