You did it!

Uptick in Bike Thefts

Bikes are essential to a sustainable lifestyle because they provide low carbon transportation, exercise and of course some fun. But it is important to keep in mind that they are also easily stolen if you don't take some precautions. Last Summer 127 bikes were reported stolen in Burlington. This article from Seven Days lays it all out for you. And as UVM Police Services always says, "Lock It or Lose It".

WCAX covered this year's Spring Move Out Project (SMOP). The article, and accompanying video, give you a good sense of what SMOP is all about. Make sure to start planning for next year's move out by keeping SMOP in mind.

SMOP is a partnership between the University of Vermont, Champlain College, Chittenden Solid Waste District, the Burlington Code Enforcement Office, Casella, Myers, Burlington's Community & Economic Development Office, and ReSOURCE.

Burlington Summer Hack: Lake Champlain

Looking for something fun to do? A narrated cruise on the Spirit of Ethan Allen is a fun way to get some of the history of Lake Champlain. You can even add lunch or go for the full package with a murder mystery dinner, though those are pricier. If you are a history buff, you might prefer a trip on Northern Lights which is a replica of a lake steamboat. Want to pack your own lunch and enjoy the lake on the cheap? Try a roundtrip ferry ride for only $8/person. Or if you are more hands-on try the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center for one of their award-winning learn-to-sail programs or volunteer for the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and teach others about the lake, its ships and their history. Whatever option fits you best, you can enjoy Lake Champlain and the gorgeous Summer weather.
