January 2016

It is hard to believe it is 2016! Unfortunately, many movie predictions did not come true last year (like hoverboards but they may be closer than you think). Still 2016 is a whole new year with plenty of opportunity for new discoveries/inventions. In this issue, we share an upcoming job opportunity, what to do if you think you are being pulled over by a fake cop, and other important stuff. Enjoy!

Fake Police?

As a driver, seeing flashing lights in your rear view mirror can be one of the most anxious moments you can experience. That anxiety is even higher when you aren't sure the person in the car behind you might not actually be a police officer. Recent cases of drivers in VT being pulled over by people impersonating police demonstrate the need to know what to do in these cases. Check out the important information you need to know in this WCAX story.

500 Species of Bugs -
In Your House!

Many people have trouble with bugs - especially spiders. There is a myth that bugs being present in a home indicate bad housekeeping habits. But a new study shows that all homes (at least in the study) had residents of the six-legged variety. Although that might concern some, the study's author notes, “My take-home message to the homeowners was that these things are living among you but they’re not dangerous and you won’t see them unless you really look for them,” says Bertone. “They are peacefully cohabitating with us.” Click here to read the full article and watch a video of some really cool bugs.

Dollar Store Dangers

Everyone loves a bargain - which is probably why dollar stores are so popular. But a recent study found that many items contained chemicals linked to "cancer, obesity, diabetes, asthma, thyroid and kidney diseases, learning problems, lower IQ, birth defects and early puberty". If you do shop at dollar stores here are some things to avoid.
