UVM students who participate in Approved Study Abroad Programs and complete the Study Abroad Process may be eligible to receive some financial aid while abroad.
UVM institutional aid may be available to assist with costs of UVM exchange programs, ISEP exchange programs, the Buckham Semester program and select UVM faculty-led programs. Students participating in programs sponsored by other U.S. institutions (External Programs) will not qualify for UVM institutional-based financial aid. Students may continue to use federal, state, and some other aid funds to assist in financing their study abroad programs.
Financial aid packages will be recalculated to reflect the costs of the study abroad program. Program costs above and beyond the costs of UVM will not be considered for additional UVM aid. However, Parent (PLUS) and alternative loans are available. Likewise, program costs below UVM costs will be appropriately reflected in a reduced financial aid package. If you receive outside grants or scholarships (i.e., Veterans’ Administration benefits, UVM tuition remission), be sure to check with UVM Student Financial Services (SFS) about how these benefits or scholarships might be applied to costs for your study abroad program.
Financial Aid deadlines are early so contact SFS with any questions you may have. All financial aid recipients must provide documentation of their overseas costs before any aid will be released. If you have yet to apply for financial aid, you may do so by contacting SFS. More information regarding financial aid as it relates to study abroad can be found on the SFS website at http://www.uvm.edu/~stdfinsv/?Page=studyabroad.html
