Gund Catalyst Awards

Gund Catalyst Awards increase collaborative research at UVM, while advancing our mission: To mobilize scholars and decision makers to understand and tackle critical environmental problems.

Funded proposals address environmental issues at the interface of two or more Gund research themes: climate solutions, sustainable agriculture, health and well-being, resilient communities, and equity and justice.

  • Awards can range from $10,000 to $200,000
  • Proposals can include funding requests for a postdoctoral researcher

Successful proposals combine cutting-edge research and scholarship, real-world engagement and impact, and the promise to grow and attract greater support and recognition.

In six years, Gund Catalyst Awards have issued over $1.3 million in startup funds, supporting 24 innovative projects and over 100 UVM scholars. These projects have generated over $23M in external funds and inspired real-world action.

Eligibility and Requirements

The Principal Investigator (PI) on each proposal must be a Gund Fellow.

Proposals can have up to one Co-PI, which can be another Gund Fellow, Gund Affiliate, or any UVM faculty member. Anyone can participate as a Collaborator.

Faculty can only serve as PI or Co-PI on one Catalyst project at a time, but are welcome to participate as collaborators.

Full requirements will be posted to the application portal when the application opens.
